Falmouth Yacht Club was formed by a group of sailboat racing enthusiasts during the mid 1940s. Pride in the new organization swelled with the opening of the clubhouse located at the mouth of Falmouth Harbor in 1946. Since then the club has continued to remain true to its sailing and racing heritage while growing and adapting to the needs of its membership. With a current membership approaching 400, FYC offers many amenities to its membership and also to visiting yachtsmen. The clubhouse serves as the focal point of club activities throughout the spring, summer and fall seasons. A private beach with lifeguard and swimming raft is maintained for member enjoyment. The waterfront that originally had one small dock now has over 200 feet of bulkhead to accommodate members' and visiting boats as well as a launch facility for the club's racing fleets. There are also almost 100 feet of floating docks provided for and club launch service.
Located at the base of Falmouth Heights, the club has a full service dining room and members' bar, featuring a 270-degree view of Vineyard Sound, Martha's Vineyard, Nobska Point and the Elizabeth Islands. The dining room is open 6 nights with Monday nights reserved for Junior Yacht Club functions. Falmouth Yacht Club has an active social scene with theme dinners and parties scheduled regularly throughout the club season.
The club hosts many regional and national sailing events as well as a well-attended junior regatta each year. Many an FYC sailor has gone on to star in high-school, collegiate and adult events. Falmouth High School Sailing also calls the Yacht Club home and the members feel a justifiable pride in the accomplishments of the high school's team. Falmouth Yacht Club Race Committee, long recognized as one of the best in the area, regularly sends its members to help out at other clubs during their national and world championship sailing events. At home, it oversees the FYC racing program that club races mornings and afternoons.
If all that isn't enough the membership comprises a cross section of the Falmouth Community. Stop by, make new friends. Falmouth Yacht Club is an ideal spot to break your voyage, coming or going on trips to The Vineyard or Nantucket. Last year the club entertained visitors from 32 U.S. yacht clubs and many more from overseas clubs, and as is our tradition, they left a burgee behind for display in our bar. We’ve got quite a collection!
The welcome mat is always out for visiting yachtsmen - let us be your homeport away from home!
